Billy the Kid   R&D 1004     Andy Garboden

OPENER
Four Ladies Chain Over and Back

Sides face, grand square
In the southern part of Texas, east and west of El Paso
Where the mighty Franklin Mountains guard a trail to Mexico
A new made widow cryin' and a hurse a-rollin' slow,
And I guess that Devils passed this way again
Allemande and weave
There's a lathered sorrel stallion runnin' through the Joshua Trees,
A young man in the saddle with his coat tails in the breeze
Got a six gun on his right hip, a rifle on his knee
and he's dealin' in a game he can't win.

FIGURE

Heads (sides) promenade halfway round you go

Side (Head) Two do a right and left thru and turn the girl you know,
Now square thru in the middle get four hand round and then,
Do sa do and do an Eight Chain Four
Poor Billy Bonney, you're only twenty-one
Swing your corner girl and promenade her son
Each notch carve in your six-gun's got a bloody tale to tell
You're a mile ahead of Garrett and a step outside of hell

BREAK
Sides face, grand square
Them fancy clothes you're wearin' and the women in your bed,
Can't take away the faces of the men that you left dead
As you ride across the badlands with a price upon your head
Now that wheel of fortune starts to turn
Allemande and weave
Your reputation's grown till it's the biggest in the land
There ain't a lot of people left who wanna call your hand.
I guess you'll go down shootin' just like a branded man,
When you shake hands with the Devil you'll get burned.

CLOSER
Sides face, grand square
Instrumental
Allemande and weave
Poor Billy Bonney, you're only twenty-one
Pat Garrett's got your name on every bullet in his gun
Each notch you carve on your six-gun's got a bloody tale

You're a mile ahead of Garrett and a step outside of hell
